Stanardsville - Skyland

Distance:  64 miles

Climbing:  110 feet per mile

Description:  A truly extraordinary ride, this route climbs up from Stanardsville to the Skyline Drive in the Shenandoah National Park then heads north on Skyline Drive for 25 miles before turning around and heading back.  You are guaranteed to get your fill of scenic mountaintop overlooks.  Don’t miss it.

The climb up Route 33 to the park is fairly steep and a challenge in itself, but while the climbs on Skyline Drive are long, they are limited to maximum grades of 8-9 percent.

As an alternative, you can skip the first climb and start at the entrance to the park to make a 50-mile ride on Skyline Drive.

Stores:  Mile 23 (Big Meadows Visitors Center); mil 32 (Skyland Visitors Center)
