Three Creeks - Mount Doom

Distance:  27 miles

Climbing:  95 feet per mile

 

​Description:  A pleasant ride for the most part through very rural sections of Nelson County, the route fords several small creeks on one stretch.  It becomes very challenging later in the ride due to one long, steep climb affectionately known as Mount Doom.

From Charlottesville (I-64), take 29 South approximately 18 miles. Turn left on Irish Road (Route 6) for 5 miles, then right on Schuyler Road (Route 800) for 1 mile, then left on Howardsville Turnpike (Route 602) for 2 miles, then right on Rockfish Crossing (Route 722). Continue 2 miles to the intersection with Salem Road (Route 693).
